Atlee Kumar is one of the well-known personalities of the south indian film industry. His full name is Arun Kumar who is a famous film director, writer and producer. He is one of the successful directors of Tamil film industry. Initially, after working as an assistant director in several films, Atlee made her film debut in 2013 with the film Raja Rani.

Early Life

Atlee Kumar was born on 21 September 1986 at a place named Madurai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Atlee Kumar stayed there and completed his early studies and later studied Visual Communications in Chennai and Satyabhama University.

Atlee Kumar got married in November 2014 after dating a famous TV actress Krishna Priya for 8 years. Now they have a boy too. Film career Atlee began his film career as an assistant director to Shankar Shanmugam.

1. Raja Rani: In 2013, director Atlee Kumar made his directorial debut with Raja Rani, a romantic comedy film. Arya, Jai, Nayantara, Nazriya Nazim were in lead roles in this film. Raja Rani earned 150 crores at the box office and the film was awarded the Vijay Award.

2. Theri: After the huge success of Raja Rani, Atlee directed his next hit film Theri which released in the year 2016. Vijay thalapaathy, Samantha, Amy Jackson were seen in the lead roles in this film. The film received good reviews from all quarters and grossed over 250 crores at the box office and became the second highest grossing film of 2016 in the South Indian film industry. 3. Mersal: After Theri, Atlee made another film Mersal with Vijay Thalapathy which released in 2017. The film released in China on 6 December 2018. Due to the huge demand of this film in Europe, it was released in Europe’s biggest cinema Grand Rex France. The film was screened at the Hainan International Film Festival in Hainan, China and the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival in South Korea.

4. Bigil: Atlee Kumar directed his next film Bigil which was his third film with superstar Vijay. bigil was an action thriller film which was released in the year 2019. Vijay thalapaathy, Jackie Shroff, Nayantara, Vivek were seen in the lead roles in this film. The film did a business of 400 crores at the box office and became the highest grossing Tamil film of the year 2019. This film won many awards.

Atlee Kumar started film production in the year 2017 Atlee along with his wife Priya started his own production house named “A for Apple” and produced his first film Sangili Bangili Kadhwa Thorae in association with Fox Studios. It was a horror comedy film starring Jeeva, Sri Divya, Soori in the lead roles.

2. Andhadharam: In 2020, A for Apple production house produced another film Andhadharam. it was a horror thriller movie. Arjun Das, Vinod Kishan were seen in the lead roles in this film. The film was released on Netflix on 24 November 2020.
